Cassandra takes Jeziah to hospital. He is likely to be there for a week or two. She then goes to the Police and tells them her home was attacked by the same cultists who killed Jackson Elias. They killed her ground keeper but they fought them off. She tells Detective Chief Inspector Barrington about Zahra Shafik, who she says lead the attack. However, when they go to Empire Spice to arrest her, she has fled.
The Police go door to door in Soho asking questions about the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh. With Gavigan and Shafik both disappeared, the Brotherhood is leaderless and some of the residents speak out, leading to arrests of members of the cult in the Blue Pyramid club.
Cassandra arranges with her solicitor to make a claim from her home insurance to help repair Astor Manor. She lays off the house staff, as the house will need repairs for a few months, but employs a Grounds Keeper to look after the garden and lock the place up.
Cassandra resolves to travel abroad to continue the investigation into the Carlisle Expedition, but she does not want to leave until Jeziah has recovered from his wounds. They can spent the rest of the week resting and recovering and talking over the facts and clues they have come up with so far.
After a few days, Cassandra suggests they break into Gavigan’s flat to see if there are any clues there. Zalkador, Alex and Tiger do this, but find nothing of interest there. It looked like he kept all his cult information at Misr House and the Penhew Foundation. Zalkador takes some expensive and value things from there.
They go through all the items that they took from the Penhew Foundation, Henson Manufacturing and Misr House. They carefully box up anything that looks like it could be special or unusual, just in case, such as the busts of the Black Pharaoh that they found. Zalkador though remains fascinated with small statue of a tentacle-faced creature he found, as he believes it helps him with the Tarot readings if he touches the statue first.
Jeziah is released from hospital today, although he will need another few days of rest.
With the whole team re-assembled, Cassandra calls them together to over Sunday lunch at a nice London restaurant to talk about where they should go next. The clues they have point to Egypt, Kenya, Australia and China. Cassandra did go to Kenya, briefly, six years ago after Roger died, but her parents died shortly after and she was forced to return to England. She asks the others what they think.
Zalkador decides to use a Tarot reading to decide what to do next. They tell him the answers all lie overseas and that he will become rich by doing so. They also suggest that, if he does things right, all his wishes will be fulfilled. This persuades him that, while it may be dangerous to go abroad, here is a reason to do so. He resolves to travel abroad with them – but where to he is not so sure.
Alex thinks they should start in Egypt, as a lot of leads point there, including that is where the Carlisle Expedition first went to, the Clive Expedition is there now and the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh must originate there.
Tiger really wants to go to Australia, as he has never been there before.
Jeziah agrees with Alex that Egypt seems to be the most logical next location.
Cassandra resolves that they should go to Egypt next and she begins to wrap up her commitments in England in preparation. She has a General Manager to run Astor Motors. She has her solicitors and builders work on repairs at Astor Manor. Alex prepares his aircraft to fly to Port Said. Jeziah makes enquiries in Cairo to find a good hotel and resolves on the Sheppard Hotel.
Cassandra does not want the artefacts they are not going to take with them to Egypt to be left at Astor Manor, so Jeziah arranges for them to be placed in Strong Boxes in a London bank.
They review the clues they have before heading to Egypt and conclude the following:
With all their preparations complete, the Investigators pack their travel bags and head to Alex’s aircraft to fly to Port Said.
