This is the record of a current, on-going campaign: Masks of Nyarlathotep; a classic, world-spanning adventure for Call of Cthulhu.
The campaign begin in 2020 with the players based in London in 1935. All events in the campaign are considered to have happened 10 years later than in the original game. So the Carlisle Expedition still died six years ago, but in 1929 instead of 1919.
The campaign centres around the Carlisle Expedition. It was led by Roger Carlisle, a rich American dilettante who had developed a love of all things Egyptian. Roger took with him:
Sir Aubrew Penhew, an elder British Egyptologist.
Dr Roger Huston, his personal Psychiatrist.
Jack Brady, his ever-present body guard and problem solver.
Hypatia Masters, a young, inexperienced photographer.
M'Weru, a mysterious African woman from Kenya.
In this version of the game, Roger left his love, Cassandra Astor (a player character) behind in England while he went away, promising to return.
The Carlisle Expedition went to Egypt in 1929, with the intention of finding evidence of a lost Egyptian Pharoah in the early dynasties. They visited various places in Egypt and for a brief period disappeared.
When they returned, they stated that they had failed to find all the evidence they needed. However, the members seemed to have been changed by their experience.
The Expedition announced it was heading for Kenya for a rest. While there, they went on a hike into the mountains with a number of local bearers. In those mountains, they were all slaughtered by local natives, their bodies left undiscovered for weeks.
Cassandra Astor and Roger's sister Erica went to Kenya to try to find out what happened. They were assured that some natives had been hanged and that there was little that could be done.
Cassandra's parents died around the same time and she was forced to return to the UK and manage their car business. Erica stayed a little longer but in the end returned to New York.
Cassandra spent a number of years handling the aftermath of the Great Depression and keeping her family car business running. At the back of her mind, she was still haunted by Roger's death and did not believe the story she was told by the authorities in Kenya.
One day, at a party, an American friend of hers recommended she speak to Jackson Elias, who had a reputation for investigating cults and debunking official cover ups. Driven by her own suspicions, Cassandra arranged to speak to Jackson.
He was quickly able to confirm her suspicions and agreed to carry out his own investigation into the fate of the Expedition. They agrees she would cover his expenses and he would keep her up to date with his findings.
After a few months, Jackson writes from first Egypt and then Kenya he has found gaps in the official story and he no longer believes the Expedition died in Kenya. Then one day, he sends an urgent cable saying he is returning to the UK. He has found out a lot but he has run into trouble and he needs help.
He asks Cassandra to prepare a group to assist in his investigation and will meet up with her when he is back in London.
Cassandra gathered together a small group as best she could.
Jeziah Merriweather, her butler, book keeper and driver.
The Great Zalkador, her fortune teller.
Alexander Stevens a pilot and antique collector friend of hers.
William "Tiger" Johnson a quirky game hunter and friend of Alex.
As our story begins, the group await a message from Jackson that he has returned.
