Curse of Strahd

Campaign Overview

This was a campaign originally started in 2016. It was set in the 18th century and featured Antonio Tremere, a British highwayman who managed to steal a great deal of money and wanted to buy a noble title. He ended up getting on in Transylvania from the Emperor in Vienna.

All the rest of the characters were part of Antonio's entourage as he travels to Transylvania. When he gets there, they get lost in the fog and ends up in Ravenloft.

The game used my own bespoke game system, rather than D&D. The players had an advantage in Ravenloft as they had gunpowder weapons when the natives mostly did not, but the campaign was still a struggle. It kinda ground to a halt after a certain point.

Second Campaign

The game was re-launched in 2020-1 with different characters and some different players. The main focus was Juan de la Vega and the surviving crew of a mercenary ship that had attacked the Ottoman Turks in Constaninople, but the attack had gone wrong. The survivors were forced to flee north to escape the pursuing Turks and found themselves in Transylvania, where again they got lost in the fog and ended up in Ravenloft.

This time a different route through Bavaria was used and the players did slightly different things, though they ended up meeting the previous characters and getting some help from them. Sadly, this campaign fizzled out too. Ravenloft is a very difficult and challenging setting to run in and the adventure is tough.
