19/04/2026 – Rest and Reunions (7)

Wednesday, 17 April 1935

They walk back to Nairobi the next day. During the walk, it becomes clear that Cassandra does not remember much of the events at the Mountain of the Black Wind. She does not seem to want to talk about it, neither does Agatha.

The walk back is long and tiring. It is late into the night before they arrive in Nairobi. They stumble into their hotel and collapse into bed.

Thursday, 18 April 1935

In the morning, they discover that the hotel staff were very concerned about you and reported to the authorities that you were missing. They are forced to spend most of this day reassuring the Police that they are alright.

Friday, 19 April 1935

They spend the next few days resting and recovering in the hotel. Injured Investigators, especially Monty, spend a lot of time in bed, having room service bring them food and drink.

Cassandra is acting a little oddly, talking down to everyone and she seems content to stay in the hotel and do nothing for a few days. She spends a lot of time at the bar getting drunk, along with most of the others who are not in bed. Jeziah tries to start a conversation about when they are leaving and where they will be going next, but she either ignores him or tells him to shut up.

Alex used most of his ammunition killing cultists, so he spends time replenishing his supply.

Leads to Australia

Cassandra starts to snap out of the funk she has been in and starts to talk about where they will be going next. They review the clues leading to Australia, including the Randolph Shipping Company transporting strange machinery to the Penhew Foundation in London and the information about stones in the desert, presented to them by Professor Clowes.

Jeziah has the longitude and latitude co-ordinates that Professor Clowes gave for the location of the stones. He goes to the library and get the Ordinance Survey map. The co-ordinates appear to be in the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, not near to any settlements. It looks like a strange and distant place.

The two main places mentioned are Darwin, in northern Australia, and Port Hedland, a small port on the west coast.

Tuesday, 23 April 1935

Monty is feeling better today, so he and Eddy go to Wilson airport to check on the aeroplane. It is fine. He finds a telegram has arrived for them from the Harley Street Doctor who is looking after Zalkador and Alex. Apparently they are making a rapid recovery and would like to join their friends.

Monty takes the telegram back to the hotel and Jeziah replies to the Doctor, telling him the hotel they are staying in and saying if they want to fly out to Wilson airport in Kenya, they can join them. A reply arrives a few hours later, saying that they will chart a flight with Imperial Airways the following day. It will take 7 days for them to get there.

Cassandra agrees to wait for them, then fly onto Australia. The Investigators have a week long holiday in Nairobi, mostly enjoying the hotel restaurant and bar.

Thursday, 02 May 1935

Alex and Zalkador arrive in Nairobi and are reacquainted with the others. They are brought up to date with events, even though Cassandra and Agatha do not want to talk about things.

Monty has planned a flight from Nairobi to Darwin, via Khartoum, Cairo, Karachi, Singapore and Batavia. It will take about 9 days. However, there is no airport listed for Port Hedland, they will have to leave the aeroplane in Darwin and take a boat to Port Hedland.

Friday, 03 May 1935

They board the aircraft and fly out of Nairobi, heading for Darwin. Alex and Monty alternate taking the pilot’s chair.
